The Duchesse de Nemours is a legendary heirloom peony bred in 1856 by French breeder Calot. This award-winning double-white herbaceous perennial captivates with its intoxicating rose scent, luminous cupped petals, and creamy-yellow centers. Reaching 90 cm tall with a 36 cm spread, it blooms in late spring to early summer and is perfect for bridal bouquets, perennial borders, and as a premium cut flower. Holder of the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Plant in full sun to partial shade (minimum 6 hours daily) in fertile, well-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Position root crowns so buds sit just 2–5 cm below the surface—planting too deep prevents flowering. This timeless variety remains widely cherished for its elegance and fragrance.
